The NDIA and Livable Housing Australia (LHA) have signed a contract that will lead to improved market surety for SDA providers and investors under the NDIS.
The project will further develop the current NDIS SDA Design Standards and develop a curriculum to train those wishing to become Third Party Assessors. LHA will also manage the certification and registration of Assessors.
The new approach to dwelling certification that is being developed will include two stages, with the first being completed at the building plan stage. This will offer greater surety to providers and investors that their dwellings will meet the requirements for enrolment once built.
Work has commenced on the updating of the current Standards, and the curriculum for Assessors will be delivered in Q4 FY19. Following training and registration as an Assessor, the NDIA expects market based Assessors to be available to providers toward the end of the 2019 calendar year.
This project is one of several that the Government and NDIA have underway to ensure adequate supply of high quality fit-for-purpose SDA that meets the needs of eligible participants with extreme functional impairment and very high support needs.
In addition to developing the SDA Design Standards, LHA will also help develop training programs for professionals wishing to become certified SDA Assessors. LHA will also manage the certification and registration of Assessors.
Livable Housing Australia, in association with its members, will arrange robust industry consultation to ensure that the updated Guidelines align with industry expectations.
